A 20-foot container needs approximately 50 to 100 feet of straight clearance, depending on the delivery equipment used in your area. A 40-foot container needs approximately 100 feet of straight clearance. Width requirement is approximately 12 feet.
Overhead clearance:
A minimum of 13.5 feet of overhead clearance is required for access to the property. An additional 2 to 3.5 feet (15.5–17 feet total) is needed at the drop-off spot due to the trailer lifting the container into place. Trees, power lines, and other overhead obstacles need to be cleared before delivery day.
Ground conditions:
Houston-area jobsites vary from paved commercial lots to gravel yards to soft coastal-clay ground near Galveston and Texas City. The surface should be fairly level, smooth, and firm so container and office doors operate correctly. On soft or unstable ground, we recommend supporting each corner with asphalt, gravel, concrete footings, pavers, or railroad ties. A delivery truck and trailer can weigh over 30,000 pounds, so if you're expecting an off-road or soft-ground delivery, talk to your local rep about site conditions in advance.
Permits and property placement:
Storage containers and mobile offices are generally categorized as temporary relocatable structures and are frequently not restricted, but this varies by city and county. Check with the City of Houston, Harris County, or your local municipality before finalizing placement, especially for job sites in Galveston, Fort Bend, or Brazoria counties.

Container doors are built to accept a padlock, and select units include lock boxes to help prevent bolt cutters from reaching the padlock — an added layer of security for jobsite tools, equipment, and materials.
